A crucial part of your oral exam is a visual inspection of the interior of your mouth. But not all parts of your mouth are that easy to see. At Oasis Dental, we make use of the latest technological developments in our mission to provide you with the best possible oral care. This includes the use of the intraoral camera to see even the smallest issues within your mouth and make a more accurate diagnosis.
The Intraoral Camera
You are most likely familiar with the tray of tools that are set beside the dental chair when you come in for an examination. One of those tools is a small, metal mirror. This mirror has been used to provide us with a better view of the inside of your mouth. Technological developments have improved upon this tool, which has led to the intraoral camera.
The intraoral camera is a handheld electronic device that is approximately the same size as a large pen. At one end is a camera. The tool is connected to a computer. The camera then displays images on the monitor. It can be used to capture real-time images of the inside of your mouth. It can also capture still images. If we come across something suspicious, we can take a still and manipulate the image without the need to hold the tool in your mouth for extended periods of time.
Gaining Your Trust
Many patients are afraid of the dentist. Some have anxiety even going in for a regular cleaning and exam. Many times, this anxiety stems from the fact that you have no idea what we are doing when we examine your mouth. You can only hear and feel the tools as they poke and prod your teeth and gums. The only information you have is what we tell you. You may not believe what we are saying, or you may not think that the severity of your issue is all that bad. The intraoral camera not only helps us, but it also helps you as well. You can see exactly what we see.
