There is a range of options when it comes to dealing with minor tooth decay. Fillings can come in a variety of materials, but Oasis Dental is proud to offer composite fillings. These are also known as “metal-free” or “tooth-colored” feelings. We have been using these fillings for years, and we want you looking and feeling your best when you leave your treatment. This is a great way to provide long lasting results while allowing your smile to remain cosmetically appealing.
What is a Composite Filling?
When you get a cavity, it is important to get it taken care of as soon as possible to prevent the decay from spreading deeper into the tooth or the surrounding teeth. Many of our patients express concerns about metal fillings, as they are known to contain mercury. We want our patients looking and feeling confident, and if there are any doubts, that inhibits that confidence. For that reason, when repairing a decayed tooth, we use only composite fillings. This means that there is no metal. Thus no mercury involved. Composite fillings are made of a resin which combines plastic and glass to create a strong and cosmetically appealing look. These fillings are nearly indistinguishable from your natural teeth, meaning that no one would even know you got work done in the first place!
How Does It Work?
When you come in to get your cavity filled, the first thing that we are going to do is numb the area. The makes sure that we do not cause you any pain. From there, we will clean out any decay there may be. Once the decay is cleaned out, and the only natural, healthy tooth remains, we will gently chemically etch the surface of your tooth. This is safe, do not worry. We will clean that away and then layer by layer, apply a composite resin to the hole, curing it as we go. This ensures that there are no air pockets and that the tooth is strong as ever. Once the hole is filled, all that is left is making sure it looks good. We will trim away any excess there may be before polishing the exposed surface of the filling.
The filling will match the rest of your tooth and be nearly indistinguishable. This way, you do not have to worry about flashy metal pieces in your teeth when you open your mouth. Once you are all polished and set, you are ready to go home.
We have been treating patients with this advanced filling system for years and would be more than happy to do the same for you. Your health is our number one concern here at Oasis Dental, and this is just one of many ways that we can ensure your dental health stays at its peak.
