Good oral hygiene practices every day is very important to stay on top of good oral health. When oral hygiene is not part of your everyday routine, you are really taking a risk of having a list of things go wrong for you all the way around.

Oral health is the start to your overall physical health. The last thing you want is for an infection to start, and cause you other problems for you, and make you feel not at your best.

No one wants to lose teeth, and require dentures. It will lesson your self-esteem, and may make you pull back from interaction with people you care about. Let's go over what it means if you experience numbness in your teeth.

What Causes Your Teeth to Feel Numb?

If you notice a numb feeling in your teeth you need to speak to a dentist as soon as possible. This is a sign of injury and needs immediate attention. Your teeth are alive. They have nerves and blood vessels inside them, and they can die. Trauma to the dentin can lead to tooth loss.

The dentin is the inside structure of your tooth that carries the nutrients it needs to keep your teeth healthy and alive. Not treating tooth decay, when needed, can lead to tooth rot. That is when you will notice numbness, and then loss of sensation.

It may fall out, or need to be taken out so that it does not affect surrounding areas. A bad tooth can spread to other teeth and your gums.

There are procedures that can be done to save your tooth if treated quickly. The infected area can be removed, and then filled, and sealed with a special material to stop the spread of infection. Sometimes a crown may be used to protect your tooth from further trauma.

The good news is, your dentist can pretty closely match up the color with surrounding teeth, and most likely no one will even notice. Please do not hesitate to give us a call if something does not seem right. It is better to be safe than sorry.

We want you to keep all your natural teeth for as long as possible. Remember to schedule regular visits with us for cleanings and exams, so we can help you stay at your best. We can tell you how to prevent other things from happening, and how to keep moving in the right direction. We hope to hear from you soon.
